Bras that do not support the breast correctly can cause skin problems,
a particular concern for many women with larger breasts.
If the weight of the breasts is mostly supported by the shoulder
straps, these can dig in. Angry red welts can develop. These can
be both upsetting and painful for the women.
If the breasts are not supported away from the ribs, often a
problem with underwired bras, rubbed skin and fugal infections
can develop underneath.
And the wire of underwired bras can poke the skin. Fashion bras
unnaturally separate the breast out to the sides of the chest
wall. Underwiring was introduced to try to correct the problem.
In order to work they have to push into the tissue, but this constant
rubbing and poking can lead to lesions, marks and sores.
Bra-Doctor bras do not use underwires. They hold the breast high,
away from the body. Designed to distribute the weight across the
back, they reduce the weight on the shoulder straps, so these
can be soft and cushioned.
"No longer did I have welts on my shoulder
where the previous bra had cut
into me due to the weight."
